In the 17th and 18th century Minas Gerais became the economic center of the colony, with a rapid settlement. In 1709, they created the Captaincy of São Paulo and Minas de Ouro, separated from the Province of the Espírito Santo. In 1720, the Captaincy of Minas Gerais was separated from the Captaincy of São Paulo, with its capital Vila Rica (Ouro Preto today).

WHERE TO STAY

There are many good places to stay in. We recommend “Ponta do Morro Hotel” (with pool, soccer field) in Tiradentes city and “Providência Hotel” (with soccer field and a beautiful garden) in Mariana city. These hotels are very simple but cozy.
